Crowd chanting: “Lucha lucha lucha” There’s a very hardcore rabid fanbase
here in San Antonio for wrestling There always has been, and it goes
from generation to generation Since 2002 we have performed
in a variety of venues The San Antonio Library contacted us
about doing an event We’re more than happy to do it and bring our brand of professional wrestling
here and have a good time with it The mask for the Mexican Lucha Libre has always been used dating back
to the pre-Hispanic era Since the Mayas. Since the Incas, in Mexico
it has always been done in Lucha Libre They would hide their identities with their
masks and portray themselves as warriors They would use stripes on their faces,
paint their eyes, wear ear rings and wear leather masks that they
made themselves So, the mask has always had a
significance for the wrestler to hide their identity so they can
be great warriors in the ring Lucha Libre in San Antonio is
extremely popular Obviously, with the cultural connection here in South Texas Like I said before, it goes
from generation to generation You know, Grandma went to the
wrestling matches and saw Mil Mascaras and Blue Demon the original Blue Demon and now they’re seeing the newer generation and with each generation there comes
these high impact death-defying moves and the bar constantly is raised It started off with maybe just
an arm drag or a hip toss and now it’s evolved into all these
stunts outside of the ring and high-flying acrobatics Sometimes it’s about the mask, that’s a
tradition from our Lucha Libre style They wear it to represent the warrior
that’s inside the wrestler Sometimes he’s an evil guy,
sometimes he’s a good guy but we love them both because
they’re a wrestler Now, I believe we are San Antonio’s
brand of professional wrestling They get to see some hall-of-famers,
some Lucha legends And they get to see some
up-and-comers as well
