NEW Shotgun Meta – Combat Shotgun vs. Tac Shotgun! (Fortnite Season 9 Shotgun Tips)

Hey what is going on guys, in this video today we’re gonna be going over the new shotgun meta in.

Hey what is going on guys, in this video today
we’re gonna be going over the new shotgun meta in Fortnite season 9. As I’m sure you guys know by now, in update
9.0, Epic made the incredibly controversial decision to vault all rarities of the pump
shotgun. And they actually directly addressed their
reasoning for doing this in another blog post. It’s pretty interesting to hear so let me
share it with you guys: “We want the beginning of each Season to feel fresh and allow for
a new gameplay experience along with all the new Seasonal content. Whether its new cross-map mobility, new weapons,
or just new places to drop – you should feel like there is plenty to explore and experience. Specifically when it comes to Pump Shotguns,
they stand out significantly: they currently account for over 26% of eliminations in default
playlists, with the next weapon type not even coming close. Rather than nerfing the Pump Shotgun to a
point where it no longer lives up to its fantasy, our preference is to return it to the vault,
giving us an opportunity to revisit the general balance of the item, while introducing a new
shotgun.” So as much as I disagree with a lot of what
they say here, this is in line with what they’ve done at the start of new seasons in the past. Epic clearly wants to put an emphasis on making
changes that constantly alter certain aspects of the game, and therefore keep it feeling
fresh. However, they specifically reference the fact
that the pump accounted for 26% of all eliminations, as the main reason why they decided to vault
it. The problem I have with that logic, is the
fact that Epic is the main reason that’s the case. Over the past 6 months or so, Epic mode pumps
way better by adding purple and gold versions of them to the game. Then, they decided to vault the heavy shotgun,
which was really the only shotgun that legitimately competed with the pump. And while all of that happened, they totally
ignored the community asking them to buff the tac shotgun, because it was so weak. Shotguns offer burst damage and since burst
damage is king in Fortnite, they’re always going to be used by the majority of players. So what exactly was Epic expecting when they
seemingly did every thing in their power to make the pump shotgun the only viable option
in that weapon category? If they truly wanted shotgun usage to be split
more evenly between all the options, there were so many better ways to do that than just
straight up vaulting maybe the most iconic weapon in all of Fortnite. But now that it’s been done, let’s focus on
what the shotgun meta is currently looking like in Fortnite. Alright, so along with the pump shotgun being
vaulted, there were 2 other major shotgun changes implemented at the beginning of season
9. The first was the addition of the new combat
shotgun into the game. It’s a semi-automatic shotgun that Holds 10
Shells. It comes in 3 rarities, blue, purple and gold,
with the blue version doing 73 base damage, the purple version doing 77, and the goal
version doing 81. Now this shotgun is actually pretty unique
for 3 different reasons, first off, it only a 1.7 headshot multiplier, while almost every
other shotgun in the game has a 2.0 headshot multiplier. Second, it has by far the longest range of
any shotgun in the game, I mean you can literally shoot people at borderline AR range and still
hit for 20 or 30 damage. And finally, the crosshair and pellet spread
of the combat shotgun is by far the smallest of any shotgun in Fortnite. That may sound like a really good thing, but
as we’ll discuss a little later, it’s actually a bad thing. The other shotgun change from update 9.0 was
a solid buff to all 3 rarities of the tac shotgun. The base damage on the white tac was changed
from 66 to 71, the base damage on the green tac was changed from 70 to 75, and the base
damage on the blue tac was changed from 74 to 79. I think this is a change that has been needed
for a while in Fortnite, so to finally get it now at the beginning of season 9 slightly
softens the blow of losing the pump. So the first thing that I want to discuss
in regards to the current state of shotguns, is a question that a lot of you guys have
probably wondered since the beginning of the season, what’s the better option, the tac
shotgun or the combat shotgun. It’s finny because based on the weapon statistics,
the combat shotgun actually beats the tac in pretty much every single relevant category. Just to compare the highest rarities of both,
here’s the breakdown of the gold combat shotgun vs. the blue tac shotgun. The gold combat wins in DPS with 150 to the
blue tac’s 119. The gold combat has a larger magazine size,
a faster reload time, and more range. However, this is one of those times where
I feel like the base weapon stats are pretty darn misleading. Base DPS doesn’t take into account hitting
any headshots, and because of the tac’s 2.0 headshot multiplier vs. combat’s 1.7 multiplier,
the blue tac can hit a max 158 shot headshot, while the gold combat can only hit a max 138
shot headshot. Now I’ll admit that since the tac’s pellet
spread is so wide, it’s gonna be hard to hit for that max damage. But still, a 2.0 vs. 1.7 multiplier may not
seem like a huge deal, but trust me it is. Speaking of pellet spread, as I alluded to
earlier, the combat shotgun’s really small crosshair and pellet spread, makes it pretty
hard to consistently hit shots, especially if you aren’t great when it comes to shotgun
aim. And finally, another issue about the combat
shotgun that people are starting to notice, is how inconsistent the damage on it feels. A few days ago, Daquan tweeted a short little
video of him testing the combat shotgun in creative mode. And in the video, he shoots a player standing
still at close range in the head for something like a 120 damage. Then he takes the same exact shot from the
same exact distance, he didn’t move his mouse at all, and the 2nd time it did something
like 30 damage. I saw another clip from poach I believe it
was, where he missed a bunch of shots with the combat shotgun in a close range fight,
but then he replayed the footage in slow motion, and you saw that with almost all of the misses,
his crosshair was smack dab in the middle of the enemies’ body. So, it’s unclear if those are examples of
some kind of glitch that Epic is going to fix, but as of right now it’s really holding
the weapon back. The one significant thing that the combat
does have over the tac is range. However, in a lot of situations, I feel that
the crazy range that the combat shotgun has is actually overrated, and here’s why. I’ve seen a few clips now, especially right
after the weapon was added, of people shooting it at enemies that are maybe 20-30 meters
away, and hitting shots for around 20ish damage each. And as they did that they would say “oh my
god this is so OP, who thought they should add a weapon that can do this to the game.” But in those scenarios, it would be easier,
and you would deal more damage just using your SMG or AR anyway. So, that extra range that the combat shotgun
has definitely isn’t a bad thing, but I feel like a lot of people overrate how important
that is. So with all of those factors that I just discussed,
I personally feel that as of right now, the tac shotgun is better than the combat shotgun. I’d say it’s close enough to where rarity
could definitely make a difference though. For example, I’d still probably take a gold
combat over a white tac, but that kinda stuff mostly just comes down to personal preference. The tac in general simply has higher burst
damage potential because of the 2.0 headshot multiplier, is easier to hit shots with because
of the pellet spread and crosshair size, and the damage as whole just feels so much more
consistent. Now, one more interesting thing that needs
to be mentioned when it comes to the current state of shotguns, is the heavy shotgun. The heavy shotgun isn’t in the game right
now, but there’s some solid evidence that it’s going to be added in the near future. In the fortnite season 9 themed loading screen
that you’ll see every time you start up the game, one of the skins in the image is holding
a heavy shotgun. You may think “so what, why does that matter?,,”
Well, last season, the season 8 themed game load-up screen showed a bunch of weapons and
items that were added through out the season. It showed the boom bow, the flintlock pistol,
the buried treasure map, and there was even the baller hidden in the background. Due to this, I think it’s very likely that
the heavy shotgun gets unvaulted within the next few weeks. This would obviously be a really major shakeup
to the shotgun meta, and I think unless it’s nerfed before being added, it would immediately
be the best shotgun in the game, since it was basically a slightly worse version of
the pump. But, I don’t wanna speculate about it too
much now, because there’s a strong possibility that they’ll adjust something with the weapon
before adding it. Any kind of change to rarity or damage would
obviously make things very different. So, I hope you guys enjoyed this video and
if you watched the entire thing be sure to let me know with a comment down in the comment
section below. I wanna know, what are your thoughts on the
pump shotgun being vaulted, and do you prefer the combat shotgun or the tac shotgun? Be sure to leave a like, leave a comment,

  1. Thanks for the video I was expecting one on the new shotguns. Ps can I get a pin for using code GronKy12?

  2. Can you please make a video about help on tracking enemies with the smg or ar in close quarter fights for console?

  3. Now the drum gun is 50 – 80% of all kills in the game because both shotguns are trash, thanks epic. I'd prefer the double barrel over any shotgun in the game right now.

  4. For me the meta never changed, its so simple. Tac was always better, id always take a green tac over a gold pump. Same damage much faster fire rate, but since the combat is a weak pump, well that just makes it more obvious

  5. Hey Gronky you should use more graphics in your videos. Your explanations are satisfactory but some kind of graphic for some points you make would help to really imprint the idea in our heads. An image of the loading screen for example or a side by side comparison of weapon performance such as damages or reload speeds etc…

  6. Ya know, fortnite has ran their game to the ground. Fortnite is definitely gonna die if the pump doesn't come back soon.

  7. Why don’t people boycott this game or play apex until they get worried like last time and fix the fucking game

  8. i kinda disagree.
u can hit 50-70 dmg on 30 meter range with ease. on 70m u'll still be able to hut 19 dmg…
tac is way too bad now. i prefer the new sniper haha

  9. Tip for trash combat shotgun players: First tap the aim sights and its like a 100% gurantee for way more damage and a better hit rate (no one likes aiming I know)

  10. Fortnite really isn’t even a fighting game anymore, it feels they just care about events, promotions, and making new locations for you to look around. This is battle royale, not playground or creative.

  11. hey man i love your vids can u add me I have 994 arena points and we can go for high kill games and set new record pls coment on any of my vids if u want to play (go to my channel to find any of my vids)

  12. Honestly the combat shotgun sucks and the tac isn't that much better. I want pumps back more than siphon.

  13. The combat is a lot better more of the time. You have to be very very close for the Tac to be more effective. Every other situation the combat is better. It means you don't have to run a smg at all if you can aim.

  14. If anyone down here hasn’t played any of the a borderlands series then you aren’t my friend and I think you shouldn’t be living

  15. I have never wanted to get trigger stops now more than ever. Playing controller on pc has been a nightmare since the update. People can left click so much faster than I can RT

  16. Personally in still inbetween both, depending on rarity 7/10 times I will take the combat over the tac and use similar to a pump/smg combo

  17. When I learned that the pump shotgun was vaulted at the beginning of season 9 I started screaming fortnite's doo doo😐

  18. I hate pump bcs if our opponent has gold pump and he headsgot us we got no chance but I love combat bcs of its small crosair

  19. Hey man. Great video. I am compiling a series on the top gaming clips I’ve found on YouTube. Would be happy to include one of yours if you are interested.

  20. It's good they want to mix it up and keep it feeling new. That crappy pump shotgun needed to go.The combat shotgun is way better than that slow ASS pump shotgun. I hope they lose that pump in their files forever!!!!!!

  21. Its about to be the end of season 9 and they added a full auto shotgun. This shotgun meta is terrible. I hate the combat. Its just spam. Everything is spam and its worse than ever.
